Congratulations to Geoff Wiles! Inducted into The British BMX Hall Of Fame Class of 2024, Pioneer Influencer Category
There are definitely a few key pioneers who helped launch BMX in the UK, and one of the most prominent figures is Geoff Wiles.
Coming from the road and track cycling world, Geoff is a former Professional National Champion and a multiple medalist at both the Masters National Championships and the World Championships. Geoff, alongside figures like Sue and Malcolm Jarvis, Alan Rushton, Don Smith, and David Duffield—just to name a few—was instrumental in organizing and promoting the sport.
His contributions include coordinating some of the most well known early BMX events, both national and international, at Redditch. These efforts followed a trip to the US, where Geoff researched BMX for Halfords. He also contributed to early BMX magazines, writing a column for Official BMX and BMX Action Bike.
In addition to his writing, Geoff authored the BMX book Bicycles, Motocross Tricks, Games, and Competition, founded the Redditch Premiers club, and served as the first President of UKBMX in 1980. He later became the UKBMX National Coordinator. Along with George E. Esser and Gerrit Does, Geoff was one of the original founding members of the IBMXF, making him a true global pioneer in the inception of organized BMX racing—not just in the UK but internationally.
Congratulations to Geoff Wiles on being inducted into the British BMX Hall of Fame in the Pioneer Influencer category!
