Congratulations to Sam Wood! Inducted into the British BMX Hall of Fame Class of 2025 – Outstanding Contribution to BMX

Sam Wood was not only the team manager for some of the UK’s biggest factory teams, including Skyway, Pro-Lite and Raleigh, but also one of the best commentators ever to hold a microphone, even by today’s standards.

Sam had style, not just in the pits, but in the way he presented his teams with professionalism and that authentic factory U.S. look. He quickly became a crowd favourite every time he climbed into the commentary tower.

Any National with Sam on the mic was guaranteed to have an electric atmosphere. If you watch race archives from his era, there’s a good chance you’ll hear one of Sam’s classic one liners during the action. He was also the Skyway Freestyle MC and hosted the Holeshot competitions, bringing even more personality and energy to the UKBMX scene.

Sam also served as Chairman of UKBMX for a period and did a fantastic job in the role, all while remaining one of the most well liked characters in British BMX.

He featured on the Slough World Championships television programme and was a regular presence throughout BMX media during the 1980s.
