Congratulations to Stuart Dawkins! Inducted into the British BMX Hall of Fame Class of 2024, Outstanding Contribution to Freestyle Category

From the 80s to the present day, Stuart Dawkins has contributed immensely to BMX.

In 1989, Stu opened Backyard Skates in Hastings, during a time when the BMX industry was entering some of its darkest years. As a pro active in the scene from the start, Stu recognized the need for BMX jams and contests to evolve rapidly if the sport was to survive.

In 1991, Stu started the Backyard Jam, which grew from humble beginnings into the main annual international BMX event on everyone’s calendar for many years. The jams were followed by a series of groundbreaking videos that reached audiences worldwide.

In the early 90s, Stu also began importing bikes, parts and merchandise from the emerging tide of rider owned brands, establishing Seventies Distribution. He later went on to launch well known brands of his own.

Stuart Dawkins was a visionary within BMX, changing the face of BMX in the UK and spreading his influence across the global BMX community. We are beyond stoked to induct Stuart Dawkins into the BMX Hall of Fame.
