The 1985 UK BMX Schweppes Grand Prix season opener at Hounslow marked the first National in history to top 1,000 riders, totaling 1,144 entries into a UK race, a record at the time. Let’s also remember this National went down in just one day, from morning registration and practice to racing starting at 12 noon, with the last final hitting the track just before 10pm.

Other impressive records for the day, if you’re a stats person, were the domination of the Llewellyn brothers, with Gary winning Superclass and 16–17 Cruiser, and younger brother Wayne taking the 14s and 14–15 Cruiser.
